The Faculty of Graduate Studies awarded the researcher Mutasem Ghanem a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management in response to his thesis entitled “Developing a Framework for Adoption of Building Information Modeling in Design Offices “Rwabet Al Hamroor Company as a Case Study””.
Building information modeling (BIM) is a topic that takes interest of many researchers in the field of construction management around the globe. Further, recently business reports show that BIM is spreading out among the AEC industry firms especially in UK and USA. Thus, predicting the same to be in the Middle East region sounds rational thinking.
The aim of this research was to assess the design process of infrastructure projects to identify its main problems and to find out if BIM can overcome these problems and enhance the process of design. For the achievement of this goal, Saudi region was chosen as case study. Then, semi-structured interviews were prepared and conducted with engineers from the field in order to assess the current process of design.
Qualitative approach was deployed in data collecting and analysis processes. The data was inductively analyzed using computer software (QDA Miner) based on grounded theory. The results of data analysis uncovered that BIM is the solution to overcome the design process problems if it implemented well. Further, recommendation were outlined to be considered in future researches.
The committee consisted of: Dr. Ihab Hejazi as a main supervisor and Chairman, Dr. Ahmad Saleh as a second supervisor, Dr. Hesham Shkokani as an external examiner and Dr. Mohammed Abu Nemeh as an internal examiner.
At the end of the session, the committee approved the success of the researcher and recommended him a Master’s degree.
