The Faculty of Graduate Studies awarded the researcher Manal Arrar a Master’s Degree in Methods of Teaching English in response to her thesis entitled “The Influence of the Debate Discussion on Enhancing Eleventh Grade Students Critical Thinking Skills and Increasing Achievement in Education and Sciences”.
This experimental study aimed at examining the influence of debate discussion on enhancing secondary students' critical thinking skills and Academic achievement. Also observing the relation between argumentation writing skills, reading comprehension skills as achievement dimensions and debate discussion as effective strategy in cooperative learning. Besides, the correlation between debate discussion and critical thinking skills. The study applied Watson and Glaser critical thinking appraisal to measure critical thinking skills.  Reading comprehension test was conducted to measure student's comprehension skills, in addition to writing argumentation to test students' academic achievement.  SPSS statistical package was taken, one way ANOVA test was administered. As well as classroom rubrics. The results revealed that there are statistical significant differences between the experimental group and control group in critical thinking skills, and sub skills (inference, evaluation, deduction and, and an academic achievement. In writing test, results showed positive significance differences in writing argument, and reading comprehension. Classroom observation revealed significant increase in students' respect for the other team, also in constructing rebuttal, and understanding of the topic in favorer of the experimental group. The researcher recommended applying debate discussion strategy for all students' levels, moreover, to conduct studies that deal with the sub skills of critical thinking and argument writing skills severally.
The committee consisted of: Dr. Ahmad Awad as a main supervisor and Chairman, Dr. Zeyad Tanneh as an external examiner and Dr. Suzan Arafat as an internal examiner.
At the end of the session, the committee approved the success of the researcher and recommended her a Master’s degree.
